Computer repair
This is important information about finallyfast.com.

Every night I would see the commercials for this site, they promise to speed up your computer. I built my computer about 6 months ago and never had any trouble with it, and no, it's not running slow, I just wanted to see what all the hype was about. About half way through their free scan my computer blue screened (crashed) and rebooted. Once Windows was finally booted back up a window informed me of a critical error. It claimed the error report was corrupted and that usually indicates a serious problem with my computer. Well, there isn't any problem with my PC, it was the software from finallyfast.com.

Instead of getting myself in trouble by saying what I think about finallyfast.com, I'll just post what I've found:
From a11news.com (link):
"The website FinallyFast.com advertises a free download of a Windows registry cleaner to speed up your computer, but doesn’t tell you it’s $29.95 to actually remove anything. What FinallyFast.com is selling - a Windows registry cleaner - you can get for free in a product called Spybot Search & Destroy and you can dramatically speed up your computer by removing the adware and spyware that SpyBot finds. Take a closer look at what the FinallyFast website is really offering: You have a problem with your computer running really slow, they offer a seemingly free solution. Once you see the list of junk files clogging up your registry file, you think you have a huge problem and purchase Finally Fast."

Uhm, yeah. So this is a commercial I saw on TV for a service that purportedly helps people with their sucky PCs and problems related therein. My question is, What’s the deal with showing Macs in half the commercial’s scenes and then saying available for PCs only? It’s not that Macs would actually need this service, but yeah, so why show them in the first place? There’s something off about that.

Finally Fast.com is a ripoff, don’t do it.
To make your computer run good, do these free things instead:
* Install Windows on its own partition, don’t install anything on this partition but Windows.
* Run MSCONFIG and stop services and programs you don’t need from running at startup. Which ones? Look here.
* Go to your control panel and open Add/Remove Programs and Add/Remove Windows Components to remove crap you don’t need.
* Use the free version of XP Lite to remove Windows components you don’t need and to “shrink” your installation. It will remove all the update and service pack files (which can add up to well over 1 gig).
* Install SpyBot (with TeaTimer). Update and run it often.
* Use ATF Cleaner to empty temporary fies.
* Use FireFox instead of IE. You won’t get as much internet garbage on your PC.
* Run Defrag, often.

I think that’s about all I do. Mine runs good.

The commercial is a typical infomercial, lots of goodies in it, observe!

I, and several other computer users on the net can assure you that there's nothing that this website can do that you cannot get for a lower cost or completely free. What's more, it's commercial is so bad that it's laughable. It's fairly obvious that they're attempting to prey upon those that have very little knowledge of computers. How do I know this? Because their service, as you can see on the disclaimer running with their commercial, only works on PCs and yet they show users of both the Mac iBook and the Apple G5 desktop using the website to "speed up" their computers.

If you examine the clip under which the disclaimer is running, the user is (ironically) typing on an Apple keyboard at a G5 Apple desktop. They even Photoshoped in a "blue screen of death" error message for the user of the iBook. For those of you that don't know, and aren't rolling on the floor laughing by now, the Mac OS has never featured those error messages - they've even been eliminated from Windows Vista. Now, both operating systems merely freeze permanently instead of crashing altogether.
From the site "The Original Smart-erotti"
The MyCLeanPC and DoubleMySpeed TV commercials (I videotaped them as well for future reference) claims that the CyberDefender software also cleans email viruses and other nasties. It appeared to me when running both scans on both computers that the software only scanned the registry and nothing else at all. Seems a bit deceptive to me to make claims that the software doesn’t actually do.

I just checked WOT (Web of Trust) and both of these new sites received “dangerous” ratings. McAfee’s SiteAdvisor reports similar findings, at least for MyCleanPC.com. I’m not going to go through the hassle of installing anything they have to offer, just so I can report that they’re bundled with malware. You’re just going to have to trust me on this.
